Weavers by Passion since 1969

The hotel towels are not just pieces of cloth: they are a real sensory calling card. A rough, yellowed or unabsorbent towel immediately conveys an idea of neglect. In contrast, a soft, full-bodied and fragrant towel gives that immediate feeling of luxury and pampering that every traveler seeks.

But how do you choose the perfect textiles for your facility? We at ZA&BEL Weaving we have a golden rule: quality is not only seen with the eyes, it is felt on the skin, and we have been proving it since 1969.

Here is the definitive guide.

1. The Grammage: The “Weight” of Comfort.

When it comes to hotel towels, the first data point to look at is the GSM (grams per square meter). It represents the density of the sponge and determines its softness and absorbency.

  • Under 400 GSM: Lightweight and thin. They dry quickly, but risk looking “poor” and wear quickly.
  • Between 450 and 550 GSM: The perfect hotellerie compromise. They offer excellent texture, are soft and stand up well to frequent industrial washing.
  • Above 600 GSM: Top of the line. They are the classic 5-star resort or spa towels: heavy, enveloping, ultra-absorbent. They do, however, require longer drying times in the laundry.

2. The Material: Cotton yes, but which one?

The undisputed king material is the 100% cotton, preferably long-fiber (such as Egyptian or combed cotton). The reason? The longer the fiber, the more durable, softer and less prone to lint after the first few washes.

Expert's advice: For shower drain mats, always opt for a higher weight and double-twisted processing to ensure stability and maximum absorbency.

3. Resistance to Industrial Washing: The Real Challenge.

A household towel is washed once a week; a hotel towel undergoes high-temperature washing, spinning, and bleaching almost daily.

If you choose an unprofessional product, you will end up with pieces of cardboard after ten washes. True quality is seen in the seam finishing (double side seams prevent the towel from fraying) and in the dimensional stability of the terry.

The Curiosity: Why are hotel towels (almost) always white?

Have you ever thought about it? It's not just a matter of minimalist aesthetics. White has three huge psychological and practical advantages:

  1. Sense of Absolute Hygiene: White hides nothing. If it is white, the guest immediately feels safe.
  2. Ease of Washing: White towels can be washed at high temperatures and sanitized with bleach or active oxygen without the risk of fading colors.
  3. Versatility: White never goes out of style and suits any decor style, from rustic to modern.

How to calculate the “Need” of your facility?

A common mistake is to order the exact number of towels based on the number of beds. The golden rule for never going uncovered (considering washing and drying times) is the 3 change rule (or par):

Set in RoomSet in LaundryEscort Set (Warehouse)
Ready for guest useDuring washing/dryingReady for emergencies or work peaks

Multiplying the number of maximum guests by 3 will prevent you from “lack of linen” stress on sold-out days.
